Number of Detained Journalists Rises to 9

The Eskişehir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has extended the detention period of 9 journalists for one day on November 26, 2024. Most recently, independent journalist Havin Derya was detained in Antalya.

Inhumane Transfer to Eskişehir

Journalists detained in Istanbul were transferred to Eskişehir by police vehicle in the evening. During the 8-hour journey, journalists were kept in handcuffs and were not permitted to speak to each other.

Lawyers File Objection

Bianet’s lawyers filed a legal objection for their journalist Tuğçe Yılmaz. Attorney Deniz Yazgan Şenay stated that due to the confidentiality of the investigation, they were unable to access the case file, which she deemed unlawful.

Objection Rejected Within 3 Hours

MLSA filed an objection for journalist Erdoğan Alayumat. However, Eskişehir 2nd Criminal Court of Peace rejected this objection within 3 hours. According to the court, the detention was carried out due to “membership in an organization.”

Detention of Intellectuals and Artists

Among those detained are several intellectuals and artists, including director Ardin Diren, poet Hicri İzgören, writer and translator Ömer Barasi, cartoonist Doğan Güzel, and photographer Emrah Kelekçier.

Different Situation in Diyarbakır

Journalists detained in Diyarbakır were not transferred to Eskişehir. Their statements are expected to be taken today.
