Avesta Publishing has released “Lily and the Hunter,” a comic book featuring Ken Parker. The work is written by Giancarlo Berardi, illustrated by Ivo Milazzo, and translated by Selim Nali Gulfiraz.
Created by Berardi and Milazzo, Ken Parker’s appearance draws inspiration from Robert Redford’s character in Sydney Pollack’s film “Jeremiah Johnson.” New readers are immediately struck by Berardi’s talent for cinematic storytelling.
Artistic Excellence
Berardi’s dialogue rivals that of renowned directors. Milazzo’s distinctive illustration style conveys characters and settings with remarkable expressiveness. Readers come to appreciate both the compelling narrative and the artistic craftsmanship.
Who is Ken Parker?
Ken Parker is a solitary, dignified wanderer who believes in universal values and peace. He distances himself from the violence around him. Though he doesn’t see himself as a hero, his sensitivity and courage prevent him from turning away from injustice.
Parker believes all living creatures deserve equal respect. Unlike typical Western heroes, he is educated, curious and grateful for his existence. He treats women with kindness and loyalty.
In an era of automatic weapons, he chooses a single-shot rifle. This reflects his optimism that if forced to hunt, he would give the animal that survived his first shot a second chance.
Besides hunting, he also guides the military. Through Parker, readers witness the massacre and assimilation of Native Americans. Even in these situations, Ken Parker maintains the moral stance readers expect of him.
