Artists to Discuss Their Innovative Performance

The creative team behind “Dengbêj in the Disco” will participate in a live interview today at 3:00 PM (Botan Time) on the program “Dora pirsê ya te ye” (It’s Your Turn to Ask). Artist Hêja Netirk, dancer Sarîna Panahîdeh, and dramaturg Mesut Alp will discuss their project.
The program, hosted by Murat Bayram, will be streamed live on YouTube. This interview is expected to provide an opportunity for the performers to reach a broader audience through digital channels.
In “Dengbêj in the Disco,” Hêja Netirk and Sarîna Panahîdeh blend traditional Kurdish storytelling with contemporary dance. Netirk portrays a female dengbêj singer, a role traditionally reserved for men.
Following their successful run at Hamburg’s LICHTHOF Theater, the performance team now has the opportunity to introduce their project digitally. The performance explores issues of linguistic identity and tells the story of someone living between two cultures.
“Dengbêj in the Disco” premiered in Hamburg on March 6 and ran until March 8. Regarding this performance, Netirk had stated: “When I speak with my people, I say: ‘I am in exile.’ When I speak with others, I say: ‘I am a refugee.’ Let’s talk about this.”
It is expected that during the interview, the artists will also address questions about Kurdish identity in Europe, artistic activities abroad, and the challenges facing refugee artists.
